Chelsea transfer news LIVE - Exit confirmed, Maatsen agreement, Olise latest (2024)

Hell and welcome to the daily football.london live blog for all things Chelsea. The Blues are beginning to formalise interest in several targets and things are really stepping up.

Enzo Maresca is edging closer to beginning his reign at Stamford Bridge and plans are progressing to improve the Italian's squad already. Michael Olise remains a serious target after Crystal Palace granted permission for talks between the club and his representatives, football.london understands.

A new striker is also set to be added and Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion has emerged as a target with Chelsea floating the idea of a £34million bid only to be advised against doing so. Dominic Solanke is still a name of interest as well with his £65million release clause making a summer move possible in the coming months.

In terms of outgoings, Ian Maatsen is one expected to be moved on with Aston Villa in negotiations for his signature. Armando Broja and Trevoh Chalobah are also players that could be sold.

With all of that being said, football.london has got you covered for all the latest Chelsea transfer news with regular updates to come throughout the day.

Ben Chilwell replacement

Chelsea's left-back has seemed to be a predicament for some time and according to Sacha Travolieri, Gent's Archie Brown is on their radar.

The journalist claims Brown could be signed and loaned straight to sister club Strasbourg. Brown came through the ranks at Derby County before moving to Switzerland and then Belgium.

A fee of €8m has been touted for the 22-year-old.

Michael Olise 'agreement'

There has been a lot of talk over Michael Olise over the poast few weeks with Chelsea identifying him as a top targt in the current transfer window.

It is now reported by Nicolo Schira on social media site X (formely Twitter) that the Crystal Palace man has 'reached an agreement in principle' with Chelsea on personal terms. The Blues are not the only club interested in the winger this summer with Manchester United and Arsenal linked, while Palace are keen to keep hold of the player.

Conor Gallagher enquiry

Conor Gallagher's future has taken another turn with Arsenal reportedly enquiring over his services.

According to AS, the Gunners have made contact with their London rivals to explore the possibility of signing Gallagher. The midfielder is expected to leave the club this window as he counts as pure profit.

Aston Villa and Tottenham have both been strongly linked, while the report adds that Manchester United are also showing an interest.

The number of clubs keeping an eye on the midfielder could be good news for Chelsea.

Wonderkid talks

We've been here before, haven't we? Chelsea are lining-up their next wonderkid signing with them reportedly opening talks with Boca Juniors for the potential signing of Aaron Anselmino.

The Athletic have reported that initial discussions have opened between the two teams for the 19-year-old. He has played just 10 first-team games but has attracted interest.

Reports in Argentina have claimed a package worth £17.2m has been offered, but that has been unconfirmed.

Gallagher bid rejected

As interest in Gallagher continues to heat up, reports in Spain have suggested that Atletico Madrid have had a bid rejected for the midfielder.

AS report that Atletico's 'cheeky' offer to sign the England international, worth £16.9m, has been turned down swiftly by Chelsea. The bid falls considerably short of the Blues' £50 valuation.

They are also keeping tabs on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Ederson, Matt O'Riley and Mats Wieffer.

Jackson interest

Considering Chelsea are keen on Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion, this rumour could have legs.

According to TalkSport (via Daily Mail), Atletico are targeting Nicolas Jackson this summer. The Senegal international only moved to the Premier League last summer, scoring 14 goals.

The report adds that Jackson has been left unhappy with Pochettino leaving the club and Atletico are reportedly considering a move.

Cole Palmer the answer?

England have had two matches at Euro 2024 now where performances have failed to inspire hope of a run deep into the tournament. They're currently top of Group C, but failed to control a win over Serbia and then today's draw with Denmark.

In the former the opposition got the better of play in the second with three mainly defensive changes rolled out - Conor Gallagher, Kobbie Mainoo and Jarrod Bowen. With the score locked at 1-1 Gareth Southgate's subs were more attacking - Gallagher and Bowen again, plus Ollie Watkins and Eberechi Eze this time - but again the impact was minimal.

You'd think England had exhausted all of their options, but then remember there is a so-far unused solution right under the manager's nose. That would be Cole Palmer, who is yet to play a minute at the tournament.

Could Chelsea's top goal contributor of last season helped get the job done today? And more importantly, should he start against Slovenia?

Milos Kerkez monitored

According to Football Transfers, Chelsea are keeping an eye on the situation of Hungary full-back Milos Kerkez.

They suggest high-profile clubs, including the Blues, Arsenal and Manchester United, are on alert amid suggestions of unrest between the 20-year-old and his manager at Bournemouth, Andoni Iraola. The player's father is not happy with his son being left out of matches, which happened at times during his first year in England, and so would seek to have him move on.

It is not the first time the Blues have been linked with interest after the Cherries paid €20m to AZ Alkmaar for the player last summer, and comes amid fellow defender Ian Maatsen's proposed transfer to Aston Villa.

Moving on from England...

Moving on from that disappointment, last in store at Euro 2024 for the day is giants Spain vs Italy.

Chelsea left back Marc Cucurella has been handed another start for Spain by manager Luis de la Fuente. He lines up alongside former Blues striker Alvaro Morata, and on the opposite starting line-up is former Blues midfielder Jorginho.

FT: Denmark 1-1 England

England's second group stage fixture at Euro 2024 has not gone totally to plan with Gareth Southgate's men being held to a 1-1 draw with Denmark.

Harry Kane initially put the Three Lions ahead, however the Danes were able to equalise before half-time via a long-range effort from Sporting CP's Morten Hjulmand. What's more, the performance was no more reassuring than Sunday's meeting with Serbia as the national team failed to control proceedings throughout.

Conor Gallagher was the only Chelsea player to feature, entering the field in the 54th minute and becoming the first England player to be yellow-carded at the tournament eight minutes later. Former Blues defender Andreas Christensen played the whole match for the opposition.

The result leaves them top of Group C but requiring victory against Slovenia to ensure a first-place finish.

Leicester announce Maresca successor

In case you missed it, earlier today Leicester City named Steve Cooper as their new manager. The former Nottingham Forest boss arrives in place of Enzo Maresca, who took up the Chelsea job at the start of the month.

Remember the Premier League fixtures were announced on Tuesday, with the Italian granted reunions with his former club on November 23, 2024, at the King Power Stadium and March 8, 2025, at Stamford Bridge.

Conor Gallagher on for England

Chelsea's Conor Gallagher has been swiftly introduced at the start of the second half against Denmark, coming on for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

It is still 1-1 and the Three Lions narrowly edge possession at 53 percent to 47, though Gareth Southgate seemingly wants more control and more attacking impetus in the middle of the park.

Chelsea mistake has ended up costing them £100million as Euros shines spotlight

Jamal Musiala has been a stand out player for Germany in the Euros this summer and Chelsea will be kicking themselves after letting him join Bayern Munich for peanuts.

Musiala, 21, was nurtured by TSV Lehnerz, Southampton and Chelsea in his youth, before a changing Stamford Bridge setup let the attacking midfielder head to Munich for just £170,000 back in July 2019. While it is claimed that the Blues will receive a reported 20 per cent sell-on clause for Musiala, it will be a fraction of the star man's estimated £100million value (according to transfermarkt) should he leave the Allianz Arena any time soon.

The youngster scored in Germany's 5-1 dismantling of Scotland in their opening game of the competition, before doubling his tally thus far with a goal against Hungary in his nation's 2-0 victory on Wednesday.

Chelsea to reject bid

According to the Sun, Chelsea are set to reject a bid from Atletico Madrid for Conor Gallagher.

The midfielder is keen to stay at Stamford Bridge but insisted he is currently focussed on the Euros with England.

Aston Villa have been credited with an interest in Gallagher, while Tottenham also have him on their radar.

Denmark equalise

Brighton target Chelsea-linked star

The Seagulls are reported to have made an enquiry for Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville.

The 22-year-old is likely to leave Elland Road this summer after Leeds failed to secure promotion back to the Premier League. Chelsea and Crystal Palace are understood to be in the hunt for a winger.

With two years left on his contract, the Whites are expected to demand a significant fee.

Chelsea eyeing two goalkeepers

According to Caught Offside (via teamTALK), Chelsea have set their sights on FC Porto's Diogo Costa and Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak.

It is said that both are being 'considered' by the club while recent reports have suggested that Chelsea have been in contact with Costa's camp. A transfer for the Portugal international could cost 'as much as £65m.'

As for Oblak Atletico is keen to sign a younger goalkeeper as his replacement this summer. He is said to be available for a cheaper sum of £25m.

Fulham interest in Chelsea defender

Fulham have reportedly reignited their interest in Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.

According to the Evening Standard, he is one of several players who could leave Stamford Bridge this summer. He has four years left on his contract but as an academy graduate, it would count as pure profit in any sale.

The Blues have to ensure they stay within the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Alvarez stance

Manchester City reportedly do not want to sell Chelsea-linked Julian Alvarez this summer.

“From what I’ve heard, City don’t want to give up Álvarez unless he specifically comes out and says I want to leave," Robin Bairner, chief editor of Football Transfers said via PSG Talk Extra Time.

"Now, he’s not done that yet, so his situation is a bit up in the air. In terms of teams that he might go to, Arsenal is potentially one. We’ve seen Manchester City players go there in the past, notably Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

"But I don’t think City are really realistically going to want to sell him to Arsenal, given that they’re clearly their closest rivals in the Premier League.

“So I think it’d be a very difficult deal to get done. We’ve seen Chelsea are interested in him, too. Again, it’s a difficult one to get done for them because of the financial aspect of it. They’re labouring a little bit in terms of raising money to sign players because of the financials, and obviously [they] don’t have Champions League football as well.

"So I think it would be very surprising to move elsewhere in the Premier League, and I would say that PSG are clear favourites in this one.”

Maatsen exit

The final bit from jake Stokes for today:

"It would be a real shame to see Chelsea lose Ian Maatsen. I would've loved to have seen Mauricio Pochettino give him a chance last season, but unfortunately he was completely overlooked.

"With that being said, I do think the Blues need a new left-back – I'm not convinced that Ben Chilwell will suit Enzo Maresca's brand of football."

Omorodion verdict

Jake Stokes pens his thoughts on the matter:

"I hadn't heard much about Sam Omorodion until recently. Generally speaking, I don't think the Blues need to sign another striker this summer – Nicolas Jackson showed great promise last season.

"Unless Chelsea are bringing in world-class talisman, there's no reason the Senegalese star shouldn't lead the line under Enzo Maresca."

Thoughts on Olise

Jake Stokes writes:

"Michael Olise would be a superb signing for Chelsea. His arrival would finally allow Cole Palmer to take up a central position.

"My only fear would be how Enzo Maresca plans to incorporate a number 10 – and in this case Palmer – into the Blues' starting lineup. At the end of the day, it'll be a good headache for the Blues boss rather than an inconvenience."

More on Omorodion

And more from Prat:

"I don't know, for now, anything negative about Samu," Prat explained. "He is someone very demanding of himself who knows that his life has completely changed in a year.

"From Granada to Atletico Madrid. I remember an interview he gave in which he talked about how he was crying because he had missed several clear chances and Alaves had lost to Las Palmas. He felt very guilty, he said. He is someone quite humble with a great desire to do well.

"He is a tremendously interesting forward who still has a lot to polish. It must be made clear that he is 20 years old and that a year ago he was playing in the Fourth Division.

"Above all, it needs to improve the definition. I think he's missing some goals right now. But he is a beast on a physical level, dominating away from the area and devastating in the open field.

"Many Atletico fans would like to see him for one season, at least. Know what it is capable of. It is true that on an economic level it would be a great operation to sell it for €40million-plus (£33.8million-plus), since it only cost €6million (£5.1million). But it has a lot of potential and has aroused the hype of the Metropolitano."

Omorodion message

Irati Prat who covers Atletico for Spanish news outlet Marca, has been speaking exclusively to football.london about Samu Omorodion:

"I think Atletico Madrid will sell Samu if an irrefutable offer arrives," Prat said.

"They are immersed in a squad reconstruction and want names like [Artem] Dovbyk or [Alexander] Sorloth for the forward. Memphis [Depay] leaves, [Alvaro] Morata may leave... but they are aware of their potential and what they like in Europe.

"If it comes out, it would be for a lot of money. A 'crazy' offer of well over €40million (£33.8million)."

Tom Coley

Gallagher to Arsenal?

Yes, a strange one.

It emerged yesterday in reports from Spain that Arsenal are keeping tabs on the Conor Gallagher situation.

The Gunners are looking for a new midfielder this summer and Gallagher has emerged as a new outsider.
