Use these monsters in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet's Greninja raids

Greninja will appear in ’s 7-Star Tera Raids between January 27 and 30, 2023, as well as February 10 and 13, 2023. Everyone’s favorite frog ninja comes with the guaranteed Poison Tera-type. Additionally, these 7-Star Tera Raids drop a bunch of very useful materials and items such as ability patches and capsules, candy, and tera shards. These are going to help you prepare for future raid events as well as competitive PvP battles.
This guide provides you with all the knowledge you need about Greninja’s moveset and best counters in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

7-Star Tera Raid Greninja stats, moves – Pokémon Scarlet & Violet
Here’s Greninja’s full move set as a 7-Star Tera Raid boss in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet:
- Nature – Sassy
- Ability – Protean
- Item – None
- Tera-type – Poison
- Move Set – Ice Beam, Night Slash, Double Team, Toxic Spikes, Gunk Shot, Hydro Pump
In general, Greninja is a quick sweeper featuring a strong offense and high speed, but lacking in defense.
It primarily has access to Special Attack moves, which is where you should focus your defensive efforts, but Night Slash gives it a powerful physical attack as well, so don't neglect this area completely.
Its ability, Protean, is not an issue since it doesn’t really work with the Terastylization mechanic.
Best counters for Greninja – Pokémon Scarlet & Violet
Greninja usually opens the battle by using Double Team and Toxic Spikes so set things up favorably for itself. It's a good idea to have access to Clear Smog and a Poison-type on your raid team to deal with this opening.
Being a ninja and all about going for your weaknesses, Greninja will be relentless in using Night Slash if it identifies you as having invested everything in Special Defense. To counter this, you should prepare with something like Covert Cloak and other stat boosts, as you need to be somewhat flexible with your defensive strategy.
West Sea Gastrodon
Gastrodon can redirect Water-type attacks due to its ability Storm Drain, boosting its Special Attack at the same time. You can use this to your advantage by having a raid partner attack your own Gastrodon with a Water-type move. Thanks to a good amount of Ground-type attacks as well as support moves, it's a powerful option against the Poison Tera-type creature. It's also a very bulky option, so it tends to stick around for a long time in battle.

- Move Set – Earth Power, Recover, Amnesia, Clear Smog
Clodsire
This happy-looking mud creature may be weak to Greninja's Ice Beam, but is the perfect partner in crime for Gastrodon in this raid. Chilling Water can be used to target allied Gastrodon to boost their Special Attack. Helping Hand further assists their damage output, while Acid Spray lowers Greninja's Special Defense. Clodsire can also absorb Toxic Spikes, if needed. It's a wonderful support Pokémon for this battle.

- Tera-type – Ground/Poison
- Move Set – Chilling Water, Helping Hand, Amnesia, Acid Spray
Klefki
Klefki is a neat mix of types for this battle, as it negates the usual weakness of Fairy-types against Poison moves with the addition of the Steel category. It will also resist Tpxic Spikes if knocked out. Coupled with Prankster as an ability, its impressive set of support moves make it a great addition to a team raiding Greninja. Since Greninja did not bring a Fighting-type move to these raids, Klefki must not fear anything it can do.

Paldean Tauros (Aqua Breed)
Greninja will likely be able to dish out a critical hit or two, which makes Anger Point a useful ability to bring. When hit by a critical hit, Anger Point maximizes the Attack stat and enables you to strike back with a devastating counter attack. Paldean Tauros (Aqua Breed) also comes with a range of moves that boost its Defense stat and packs Smart Strike, which comes in handy against Greninja's evasion technique Double Team.

Slowbro
Slowbro is perhaps the best option for solo raids against Greninja. The best part about it is that you won't need to put effort and materials into building up a new Slowbro if you already used one to beat the recent Cinderace raids – you can easily reuse the same specimen. Things will get difficult if Greninja lands a critical hit with Night Slash, but other than that Slowbro is a very strong choice.
